Green Jobs Training for Women

The Weatherization and Home Performance world has few women energy auditors and technicians. Why is that? This is good work that women can feel good about doing. Moving others toward energy independence and security is satisfying for many women.

Our courses are taught by women for women.

BPI Building Analyst / Energy Auditor Training and Testing In Support of BPI Certification

When it comes to skills, most adults seem to learn best when they can hear about, see, and experience what is being taught. Energy auditing is a very hands-on job. We have 4 houses on site where we teach you how to thoroughly audit homes. You will learn how buildings lose and gain energy; how appliances and HVAC systems use energy; and how people control the use or waste of energy.

We will teach you how to evaluate structures for energy saving opportunities; how to evaluate the appliances and heating/cooling systems for how to save energy; and how to teach occupants how to change their behaviors so they save energy.

The training includes all the diagnostic testing an Auditor needs to know how to perform:

  • How to "Test In and Test Out"
  • Thermal Imaging with an Infrared Camera
  • Air Leakage Testing with a Blower Door
  • Duct Testing
  • Combustion Testing
  • Moisture Metering
  • Carbon Monoxide Evaluation
  • Electricity Use Metering
  • Solar Evaluation
  • Water Saving Auditing
  • Energy Use Analysis
  • Occupant Behavior Modification
  • Quality Assurance Skills
  • Prioritization of Energy Saving Measures

Lodging, Meals, Books and Certification Testing is included in the cost for this course. We cannot guarantee that you will pass the tests, but we will guarantee that you will have plenty of time to practice skills prior to taking the tests.

Indoor Air Quality Training For Health Professionals: How Might People Get Sick from Altered Home Environments?

  • How buildings change when one thing is changed: The House As a System concept
  • Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and how this might happen; and how to fix the problem in the house so the person can heal
  • Symptoms of mold allergies and how to fix the problem in the house so the person can heal
  • Asbestos, Lead, Vermiculite Insulation, Poor Indoor Air Quality from VOC’s: How to avoid these hazardous materials in order to stay healthy
